Let's talk all about the world of plus-sized fashion: advice, events, the latest and greatest trends and so much more. Be on the lookout for special posts in our Debunking Fashion Taboos and FATshion Inspiration Interview series. Look and feel fabulous with Your Fashion Your Way.

It’s indeed something to celebrate: every year more and more FATshion events are taking place in different locations around the world.

In June and July of 2010 there are major events in FATshion going on. Let’s take some time to explore them. Maybe you’ll even be able to stop by one near you!

Full Figured Fashion Week

The first Full Figured Fashion Week took place last year, 2009, in New York, in the month of June. It was held because:

“In America alone, there are 40 million women over size 14, spending $25 billion a year on clothing, or a quarter of all clothing sales, according to American Demographics. So, why isn’t there a Fashion Week event dedicated to showcasing fashions available to the curvy consumer?” First Full Figured Fashion Week poster

That first experience was the seed to the second event that happened in 2010, once again in June in New York, and this time sponsored by Sonsi, a plus-size brand and again produced by DeVoe Signature Events (DSE) (an events management company with an extensive background in the production of plus-size fashion events, plus model training and management).

In 2010, Full Figured Fashion Week, or FFFW had much more media coverage than its first edition. Even the New York Times covered the opening of the event in an interesting article entitled “Plus Size Revelation: Bigger Women have cash too”.

Young, Fat and Fabulous Conference

The Young, Fat and Fabulous Blogger Conference took place last weekend, from July 9th to July 11th, in New York.  The motto of the meeting was: “FATshion’s brightest young things come together for a weekend of fun and fashion.”

For full coverage on the conference you can access its home page. There you will find tons of pictures, you will get to know a little more about the bloggers that attended the event, and you can familiarize yourself with the plus-size brands that sponsored it.

Fashion Weekend Plus Size

This event will take place in São Paulo, Brazil next July 23-24.

Fashion Weekend Plus Size is in its second year. The first event happened last year. This two day fashion show had the presence of the most important Brazilian plus-size brands. Check out their site for pictures and videos.

Fashion Weekend Plus SizeTo promote the second Fashion Weekend Plus Size, a very provocative photo with a group of the most important (and gorgeous) plus-size models in Brazil was released. You can buy tickets for this year’s event at their webpage.

We’re Here to Stay

I can’t stress enough the importance of these initiatives. Plus-sized women should be able to take part in fashion. After all, fashion is for everyBODY.

AND: we are consumers! That’s right - we have money to spend, fashion industry! Plus, we want to have beautiful, confortable, fashionable and affordable clothes.

This demand is growing every year. It’s our right!

If you know about any other plus-size fashion events that you’d like to share with us, please feel free to do so in the comments. If you attended any of these events, please let us know how they were!

And just so you know, I’ll be on vacation for the next couple of weeks, but I’ll be right back with a lot of interesting posts regarding the world of FATshion. Thanks for your comments and your support so far!
